This class will meet in the Albert L. Lorenzo Cultural Center, Room 137.

In response to MORE attendee requests, this class offers a basic orientation to astronomy through a discussion of the evolution of observational astronomy. This lecture covers how the ancients used the stars to improve their lives on Earth and how observational astronomy evolved through the Middle Ages up to modern times. Included will be the role stars played in making life possible in our universe and latest exoplanet discoveries. The session will conclude with a review of stars, constellations, and planets visible in our spring skies. Those taking this course will have the background to better appreciate the more advanced astronomy classes traditionally offered at MORE.

About the Presenters: Angelo DiDonato has been a lifelong amateur astronomer with a particular interest in the nature of our universe, its origin and evolution. His current focus is on deep-space objects beyond our Milky Way galaxy. He is currently retired as a test and development engineer in the defense and automotive industries and enjoys sharing his knowledge of astronomy with class members enrolled in the Macomb College MORE program.

Bob Berta is a retired electrical engineer and safety engineering director in the California electrical power industry. Bob also owned a photography studio and is currently a solar system ambassador for NASA/JPL. His astral photography is stunning and not to be missed.
